The Veil | Step-By-Step Placement

Clipping your wedding veil properly ensures it stays secure throughout your ceremony and photos. Here’s how to do it step by step:

1. Prepare Your Hair

  • Style your hair first (e.g., an updo, half-up style, or loose waves).
  • Use a texturizing spray or hairspray for grip, especially if your hair is fine or silky.
  • If you’re wearing a tiara or headpiece, place it first as it may guide your veil placement.

2. Choose Your Veil Placement

Decide where you want to place your veil:

  • At the Crown: A traditional placement for a dramatic look.
  • Under a Bun/Updo: For a sleek, modern style.
  • High on the Head: Perfect for voluminous hairstyles or mantilla veils.
  • Low at the Nape: Ideal for a simple, understated look.

3. Attach the Veil Comb

Most wedding veils come with an attached comb. To attach:

  1. Hold the Comb: Position it so the teeth curve toward your head.
  2. Angle the Comb: Tilt it slightly forward or backward (depending on placement) so it slides securely into your hair.
  3. Insert the Comb: Gently push the comb into your hairstyle until it feels snug.

4. Secure the Veil

  • Bobby Pins: If the comb feels loose, use bobby pins that match your hair color to secure it. Cross the pins in an “X” shape over the comb for extra hold.
  • Hairpins: For heavier veils or windy days, add a few decorative pins for reinforcement.
  • Elastic Loops (if provided): Some veils have elastic loops you can pin into your hairstyle for added security.

5. Adjust the Veil

  • Once attached, drape the veil as desired. Smooth out wrinkles or folds for a natural flow.
  • For two-tier veils, adjust the shorter layer if it’s meant to be worn over your face for the ceremony.

6. Test for Security

  • Tug gently to ensure the veil won’t slip out.
  • Walk or move your head around to check how it stays in place.
  • Try placing the veil ahead of the wedding day to avoid stress.
  • If you’re working with a professional hairstylist, have them help secure the veil during your hair appointment.

If you’ll be dancing or moving a lot, ensure the veil is anchored firmly or plan to remove it after the ceremony.
